Craig Horton

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in July 23rd 2008

Craig Horton Blues  brings the spirit of blues alive for me and this guy has more than just the touch of the bluesman in him.

Iv’e always loved the blues. This comes from my fathers interest in such music and I guess I grew up listening to lots of blues without even realising it. Big Daddy records have just released “Touch of the Bluesman” and this CD has attitude big time. Craig Horton certainly has soul and a delivery like no other.  Such diversity of sound is not really found elsewhere in the blues arena, especially from a guy who’s roots where once firmly placed in Jazz.

The Bluesman shows Craig Horton in the light of an accomplished musician and rightly so.

Web Design Yorkshire Gets Traffic Big Time

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in July 15th 2008

One of the first sites that I bought a number of years ago is now attracting great amounts of traffic. Thanks to the web design skills here at Bronco Internet. The true skill of the designer speaks for itself especially when it comes to attracting new clients looking for re-designs themselves. Bronco specialises in web solutions and thanks to its in-house team they are always able to meet todays demands for both creativity and innovation.

Web Design Yorkshire as a domain holds fond memories for me, probably because it was one of the first domains I purchased. Now thanks to Bronco it goes to good use. Thanks to one of our designers too. Kean ;0)

Neil Diamond Rocks

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in June 20th 2008

neildiamond-homebeforedark2008.jpgI’m coming up to 35 this year and don’t have any age hangups other then when I’m reminded that some of the music I like dates back some years. This year I fulfilled one of my ambitions, that was to get tickets to see Neil Diamond in Manchester.

I love live music, whether it be jazz, acoustic, blues or indeed anything that’s really different. Neil Diamond was better than I could of imagined. His voice seems stronger now than it did years ago, he provided over 2 hours of non-stop musical excellence.

My wife and I sat there mesmerized by the audience approval and the general feeling of excitement in the Manchester arena. I like the new album (Home before dark), but think it lacks the actual true power of his voice.

I’ll never forget the first time I watched the Jazz Singer and was captivated by the movie.

Thanks Neil. A winner !

Why I like Nathan Buggia TechEd Developer 2008

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in June 14th 2008

I had the privilege of meeting Nathan Buggia some time ago at an SEO conference, we exchanged some views on our desires for expensive motor vehicles which neither of us could really afford, yet his ultimate respect for the somewhat retro Toyota Celica I had at the time made me like this guy on meeting him. Nathan is an amiable sort of chap, yet underneath this friendly exterior you can tell there is a technical knowledge that surpasses most.

I missed the Tech Ed Developer conference in Orlando and indeed Mix08 which is a shame, but geography has its limitations. I have to say I’m more than a little intrigued though by the Live Search Webmaster Center and how it compares to a similar product from Google.

I’ll be doing a comparison post shortly.

Jason Nation MYHalo

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in June 12th 2008

Im beginning to wonder if Mahalo would be better spelt Myhalo ? What’s all this about the Jason Nation?  Such  interaction with blog subsribers has to be admired, especially the concepts of launching logo competitions etc. Is Mr Calacanis creating his own army? I’d like to know what really makes this guy tick. There’s a vast array of fun posts on there, where’s the meaty search engine stuff though?

George Maxwell Not Distinctive Enough Chesterfield Sofa Go Hell For Leather

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in April 25th 2008

Crikey, I thought the SEO industry was bad enough in terms of competition. But the recent rants on the  Dave Naylor blog about Chesterfield Sofas take some beating. It’s difficult when an SEO gets caught in the cross fire regarding a client’s website. Business is business we all know that but who would have thought that something like a club chair or a sofa would cause such a stir?

Our client Distinctive Chesterfields  recently had its domain name copied by some company called George Maxwell  UK, now it seems to be daggers at dawn and lots of smoke and mirror action as to why this was done and indeed if copyright was infringed. Personally, I know the web designer who did our client’s site and it’s totally legitimate. In my eyes it seems somewhat unfair when other companies try to steal the glory for another persons hard work.

What a fuss over furniture. Why not concentrate on your own site, rather than seeing how best to get a seedy foot up the ladder?

SEO Secrets

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in April 22nd 2008

I’ve worked with the famous DaveN SEO for pretty much a year now. On a daily basis there is something new to learn, a different angle that certain new approach that you hadn’t really thought of with a website. It has to be said though the majority of SEO work undertaken is on the whole common sense, by this I don’t mean the tasks are child-play.

New search technologies are arriving each week, new SEO’s are coming to the fold. People flock to those with SEO fame like bees round honey. Iv’e worked with a number of people over the years, yet few seem to have shared their experience and knowledge as much as those within the SEO industry.

If you follow a well structured plan for your website and keep committed to it, is there really any SEO secrets?  NO.

Horton The Elephant

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in March 16th 2008

Ok, so i’m on a diet big time. But it was hardly fair of Disney to release this film in dedication.

According to WIKI “  Horton is a kind, sweet-natured elephant who cares about other animals or people” so i’ll stick with those thoughts ;)

Horton the Elephant indeed. Think I will sue Disney lol

Information Architecture Website Splitting

Posted by danhorton.co.uk in March 6th 2008

After skimming search engine land today I see yet more debate on the No Follow attribute. I think the conclusion drawn there is reality the attribute is bound to be devalued. Do Seo’s really need to think so seperately though in terms of website construction ? One side of the site caters for spiders the other for visitors. NO!

The active process of thinking about SEO like this is bound to dilute the end product of a website being resourceful and highly relevant to the target audience. Information architecture should be a flowing process and as natural as the website content.
